Be Baptized a Texan
Every year on March 2nd the City of Huntsville, in collaboration with Sam Houston State University, gather for a March to the Grave. It’s a celebratory walk from campus to the burial site of General Sam Houston.
Sam Houston was the first President of the Republic of Texas, former Texas Governor and State Representative of the United States Senate. His life and legacy have been honored by the public since 1893, on his birthday, which is also Texas Independence Day.
In celebration of the two, honorary Texans can be officially inducted as true Texans by being “Baptized a Texan” following the march. Blessed with Huntsville water and sworn in by city officials, anyone can become a Texan!
In true Texan fashion, fit the part by picking a western outfit from Wild Brim located in Downtown Huntsville. Then top things off by chowing down on authentic Texas BBQ from McKenzie’s Barbeque.
It’s a great day to be a Texan, especially in the charming City of Huntsville!
