For over two decades, the Bar-B-Que Cook-Off & Festival has been one of the biggest events to kick-off the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. Actually, it is the LARGEST BBQ cook-off in Texas! Over 280 teams competed in the 2023 competition with proceeds benefitting the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Scholarship Fund.

It’s a two-day contest that begins on Friday with the Jackpot Challenge: Bloody Mary’s, “In the Pot” Pinto Beans, “You Pick It” Meat, Ribeye Steak, and Desserts. Saturday is the main competition with three categories: ribs, chicken, and brisket. Over a thousand judges determine the Grand Champion.

New to the scene is the Buckaroo Que and Junior Pitmasters Challenge. Kids ages 4-17 can show off their BBQ skills with rodeo provided mini pits in the Buckaroo Que. Whereas high school teams compete in the Junior Pitmasters Challenge. The Grand Champion winners will take home $20,000 in scholarship money.

Que for a great cause! So, get a taste of that Texas perfume at next year’s event!
